Welcome to Northern Lights Rats

Hi, my name is Laura and I run Northern Lights Rattery, a small rattery based in Wick, Northern Scotland. I breed for Champagne, British Blue, Apricot Agouti and associated varieties in smooth coat and top ear. I chose the name Northern Lights because I wanted something to reflect my position on the map. Northern Lights rattery is a registered NFRS Novice rattery and the name will be used to identify rats I have bred. It isn't an NFRS stud name.

I breed towards correct type and colour but firstly concentrate on temperament & health and have long term aims to increase longevity in my rats. I only breed a few litters a year and occassionaly rats will be available to go to loving pet homes. For more information on available kittens and homing please see the litters page.

I have been keeping rats since Jan 2007. My rats are kept in single sex groups in large cages and have daily play time out of their cages. My rats are pets first and foremost. Detailed information on the care of my rats is on the Husbandry page. The rest of the site is full of general rat care information and resources. My blog is updated regularly with news and stories about my rats.

I am a member of the National Fancy Rat Society (NFRS) and the Scottish Rat Club (SRC) and travel to as many shows as I can.
